Assignment: Colour Fundamentals

This week I have been working on activities all about Colour.
It was my first time using Illustrator which I enjoyed.

In the first activity we created a colour wheel and learnt about colour matching

In this activity we needed to create a collage with numbers, using different layers, font sizes and styles and picking a type of colour scheme. I used a Monochromatic scheme, the base colour I picked was the blue in the two. The other colours are shades and tints from that colour.

I did an activity where I needed to choose the colours that I feel represent Australia and where they come from. First I chose good old well known Green and Gold or Yellow and then I picked the colours from the Australian and Aboriginal Flag. when I think of Australia these are the colours that come to my mind.

This is a mood board I created on Australia displaying the colours I chose.

I also did a mood board reflecting the colours that I feel represent me. Those colours are Red, Bright Green and Black. I chose these colours as they each represent some kind of emotional value to me personally.

I briefly looked at Colour Branding.
When researching I found this interesting example which includes a colour wheel

I looked into Pantone Colour and creating colour swatches. Online I found a Pantone System Matching Colour Chart, its crazy just how many colours there are! To see the chart click here :)

Below is an image of a flag I found when searching for pictures for my Australia Mood Board. It caught my eye so I clicked on the article the picture came from and read on. The articles heading reads
"Is it time for a more mature Australian flag?"
I actually think its an idea worth considering, others may hold a different opinion. I did not share this to start a debate but to look at the flag from a designers point of view. I think the designers example (below) is a clever and effective way of incorporating two flags also including the use of green and gold.
When I have a spare moment just for fun, I may have a crack at designing a flag incorporating these 3 things.

This was not part of my work but something I found interesting so I thought I would share :)
