Assignment - Type Families

These activities are all about typefaces, was actually really interesting, usually you look at text quickly for the purpose of reading it but was interesting to stop and analyze each letter individually as well as how they work together.

I chose the faces of 6 celebrities and then picked a typeface I thought matched

I was given the pictures of the shoes and had to match the type to each shoe

I had to create an table in indesign and using the 7 types of typeface categories pick
3 examples for each
In the second part I needed to research famous typographers and choose one then type the alphabet in lower and uppercase. In my example lower and upper case look exactly the same but I thought that was interesting and the typeface was too cool not to use! lol

In the last activity we needed to retype paragraphs of text and showcase each letter of the alphabet both upper and lower case along with the numbers in the typeface the paragraph was about.
We chose the layout we wanted to use but all five pages needed to have the same layout.

Branding Activity!

I had lots of drawing to do this week!! I was working on a design for a "Fruitshop"
We were asked to create a logo without using everyday fruit shapes. I used a basic triangle shape and then added spikes to the top like the leaves you would find on a pineapple. I sketched up a few ideas and needed to pick the one I liked the most out of each category.

An example of my logo being used on a real shopfront!!

I am looking forward to more work using the designs we came up with in this activity
and digitally creating the logo!

Technology Activity - Create a CD Cover

This week I created this cd cover using Photoshop and Indesign.
We were given a design brief to work from which stated all the basic elements we needed to use and the rest was up to us!
I needed to export the file as a pdf showing all print marks.

I think it may take me a while to master Indesign, there is so much to learn!  :)

Grids and Layouts Learning Activity!

We learnt about grids and layouts and there were two activitites to complete.

In the first one we needed to find examples of two layouts,
one that we thought didnt appear to use a grid and one that did.

In the second activity we needed to find two examples from print and then draw in
where we thought the grid lines would be

Going bananas!

Hey all! I have been mia for a while, my computer crashed and I lost alot of my files :(
But this week I used bananas to keep me busy lol

We did a learning activity where we needed to create thumbnails of a banana, 50 of them!
The top one is my favourite, its a banana bomb! haha no clue where that idea came from but I chose it as my favourite as I think the yellow and green work well together and I like the way the yellow lines make the picture pop out a bit.

Hopfully I will be up and running and back to normal soon with some new work to share!
Cant wait until I get my computer back from repairs!!!

Design Learning Activity 05

I worked on an activity where firstly I needed to create specific folders to a required file structure.

I then needed to save some files into these folders and use these files in Indesign to create an invitation.

It was quite basic but was a good introduction to Indesign.
Below is the invite we were required to create :)

Assignment: Colour Fundamentals

This week I have been working on activities all about Colour.
It was my first time using Illustrator which I enjoyed.

In the first activity we created a colour wheel and learnt about colour matching

In this activity we needed to create a collage with numbers, using different layers, font sizes and styles and picking a type of colour scheme. I used a Monochromatic scheme, the base colour I picked was the blue in the two. The other colours are shades and tints from that colour.

I did an activity where I needed to choose the colours that I feel represent Australia and where they come from. First I chose good old well known Green and Gold or Yellow and then I picked the colours from the Australian and Aboriginal Flag. when I think of Australia these are the colours that come to my mind.

This is a mood board I created on Australia displaying the colours I chose.

I also did a mood board reflecting the colours that I feel represent me. Those colours are Red, Bright Green and Black. I chose these colours as they each represent some kind of emotional value to me personally.

I briefly looked at Colour Branding.
When researching I found this interesting example which includes a colour wheel

I looked into Pantone Colour and creating colour swatches. Online I found a Pantone System Matching Colour Chart, its crazy just how many colours there are! To see the chart click here :)

Below is an image of a flag I found when searching for pictures for my Australia Mood Board. It caught my eye so I clicked on the article the picture came from and read on. The articles heading reads
"Is it time for a more mature Australian flag?"
I actually think its an idea worth considering, others may hold a different opinion. I did not share this to start a debate but to look at the flag from a designers point of view. I think the designers example (below) is a clever and effective way of incorporating two flags also including the use of green and gold.
When I have a spare moment just for fun, I may have a crack at designing a flag incorporating these 3 things.

This was not part of my work but something I found interesting so I thought I would share :)
